I wrote this piece with the intention of urging/forcing the listener to think about how they actually listen to music, whether they hear things vertically, horizontal, micro, macro, for its meaning, etc. I believe when artists set up a style for themselves, they’ll stick to a certain pace and that will determine the way that listeners hear and understand their music. In other words; you don’t listen to Tupac the same way you listen to The Fall of Troy, or as Steve Reich to Miley Cyrus, or Stockhausen to James Brown; but if you can understand all of them, you can hear things anyway you want.

My intention for this piece was to set up different paces; some of which are driven by texture, some by melody, or rhythm, and some move at different speeds than others; all to mess around with listeners’ focus.
